Biography
Sungmin lahir di distrik Hogae Anyang, Gyeonggi. Dia memiliki adik, Lee Sungjin. Ia masuk tahun 2001 SM Youth Best Contest dan bersama-sama memenangkan tempat pertama untuk penghargaan Penampilan Terbaik Outward dengan pasangan bandmate masa depan Donghae. Pada tahun 2002, Sungmin sempat ditempatkan dalam proyek kelompok R & B dengan Xiah dan Eunhyuk Band pasangan masa depan. Bersama dengan Typhoon, Rose dan Attack, enam dari mereka membuat penampilan televisi pertama mereka dalam sebuah pertunjukan yang disebut Heejun vs. Kangta, Battle of the Century: Pop vs. Rock Moon Hee-Juni mengajarkan Typhoon, Rose dan Attack tentang cara benar bernyanyi rock sementara Sungmin, Xiah, dan Eunhyuk diajarkan teknik menyanyi lain oleh Kangta. Enam trainee cepat dipisahkan setahun kemudian, namun, ketika Typhoon, Rose dan Attack debut sebagai anggota band rock TRAX dan Xiah debutnya sebagai anggota TVXQ.
